WHY WEAR GLOVES?

This might sound obvious but the main reason to wear gloves when working outdoors is to protect your hands! Many times there can be rough edges when picking things up or even thorns when pulling plants.Knowing your hand is protected with a good glove can give you peace of mind. Not to mention it’s more comfortable! I am a wimp when it comes to hand strength. I can get calluses easily and just don’t feel “ strong enough” sometimes to do farm work. A good pair of gloves makes all the difference.

Yes, I usually just wear them in the garden, but the same pair of gloves usually multi-tasks and becomes a work glove too! I sometimes even paint my nails ( Yes, I know on a farm that’s almost laughable) but if I do, gloves help keep my nails clean and looking pretty for longer than expected!

My last main reason for wearing a glove is Ava. Now that I have a little one who eats EVERYTHING off the ground, I sometimes have to stick my finger in her mouth and scoop things out! It’s nice to know my hand is clean because I’ve been wearing a glove.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A GLOVE

There’s a few things you’ll want to look for when getting a garden or work glove

  • Comfort- it should fit pretty snug so you have good use of your hands. These are not winter puffy gloves, they are something you can work in and feel you can move with but be comfy.

  • Stretch-Good gloves include some sort of stretch so you can have dexterity of your hands. Look for materials such as lycra, spandex, or neoprene mixed in to help with stretch. I also love for the main bulk of the fabric to be a mesh or terrycloth as that is breathable and easy to dry and clean. Your hands can definitely get sweaty when working.

  • Sturdy-You want to make sure they are sturdy and can withstand lots of work and weed pulling. The palm and fingertips should be reinforced with a stronger material. A lot are made with a synthetic leather to help with strength. There are some that are even a light weight rubber that really grips things making weed pulling and such easier!

  • Lightweight-Lightweight is also nice! You don’t want them to be super heavy and weigh your hands down!

  • BONUS FEATURE- They are touch screen compatible! Some gloves come with this option and it’s so nice because you can still open your phone and answer phone calls without having to take your glove off.
